Just got back last night from the SCGS Jamboree. It seems to get better every year. The speakers were, by and large, fantastic. George Morgan held several workshops on English Records. It attended one on Wills/Probate, and another on Parish Records. So, I got right down to work when I got my first chance.
I found a wonderful online website for Lancashire Records: http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/
This site has a very large number of parish records that appear to be transcribed from LDS microfilms. The volunteers here have done an excellent job! I found much information on my John Mellor Jackson family. Here's their introduction to the site:
"This site aims to extract and preserve the records from the various parishes and to provide online access to that data, FREE of charge, along with other data of value to family and local historians conducting research in the County of Lancashire. An OnLine Parish Clerk should not be confused with Parish Clerks, who work for parish or town councils."
For my family members out there, when I get a chance, I will post some of the records I have found.
